The People's Eco-Rally 2008
Inspired by World Environment Day and a key event in the Love London, Love Your Planet festival, Revolve challenged eco-motorists to prove they are really 'kicking the carbon habit.' As a sequel to our inaugural event last year, Revolve invited members of the public to drive from Brighton to London in the greenest way possible.
You don’t have to be a driver to take part in the event. We teamed up with isanyonegoingto.com to demonstrate the positive impact of car-sharing. Members of the popular lift-sharing site were offered the chance to organise lifts with the eco-rally drivers and catch a ride to any suitable point en route. Car-sharing club vehicles also took part. The EarthMan made an other-worldly appearance at each stop-off point.
As a showcase for Love London’s ‘Better Journeys’ theme the eco-rally culminated in a celebration at Clapham Common with opportunities for passing motorists to get a free VOSA emissions and eco-driving driving tests, courtesy of the Energy Saving Trust.
Spectators could get advice from those taking part in the eco-rally and the green experts from Revolve, The Energy Saving Trust, The Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and The Energy Institute. An eclectic live music performance at the fairground announced the arrival of the green convoy at the finish line on Clapham Common. The soundtrack to this slideshow is by Udio.
